Chili or Mango

Chili or Mango

You got an episode with three points of choice. It depends on your decision which actual ending you’ll see. It is not a unique conception, but placed in an app (only), integrated with some game based tools and proper casting, you get a really fresh&fun stuff to your mobile devices.

First season is about Zénó and Lili, 9 restaurants (always with its name), and 72 possible situations at the end. You can choose the following scene by clicking on an icon when prompted. The icons refer to the expected direction of the story, but these beats are not obvious all the time. For every choice to made, you have less then 10 seconds. If you finish an episode on the ‘pre-concepted’ way, you get 3 stars. Otherwise, you get less.

This series is superb, especially to broaden your concepts in storytelling on mobile devices. Here are some interesting approaches form the creators:

Close-ups

It was very important to find a basic situation which is enjoyable on smaller devices, so dating seemed a nice solution. Close-ups can be watched correctly in small screens and combined with interesting places (restaurants) it resulted a proper way to tell the story.

First scene for the storyline

Interactivity can turn off linear storytelling, the tree-structure of scenes makes hard to tell story in a traditional way. So every first part has a special role in the episode. It contains all the necessary information to keep you in the story. The other three is for the game basically.

App as a channel

The application you use is actually a ‘channel’ which contains only one show (first season) at the moment. As the creators mentioned, this approach is unique recently, so could be a new model of distribution of game based series for the future.

First season episodes are technically independent of each other, so decisions you made earlier don’t affect your scenes in the season finale, but maybe this could be a feature in the second. Anyway, the promising start could point to a gripping future of the story.

It is only available in hungarian at this time (can be downloaded to iOS, and Android as a part of Fimldrops), but the english version is on the way, so maybe it should be an interesting experience for everyone soon. You can watch the trailer with english sub below.
